The gall midge is the first record of the tribe Lopesiini in Australia and a new genus is erected to contain : Peter Kolesik.
Based on DNA sequencing data and morphological features, we concluded that this gall midge belongs to the genus Rhopalomyia and is identical to gall midges collected from Chrysanthemum indicum on.
Gall and biology: The specie s is bivoltine and galls of the two generations are overall similar in str ucture. The spring-generati on galls, described h ere for the first t ime, appear in early.
